A native of Argentina, de Erausquin earned both his M.D. and a Ph.D. in behavioral pharmacology from the Universidad de Buenos Aires. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship in neuroscience at Georgetown University and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in genetic epidemiology from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. de Erausquin’s clinical training included psychiatry residency at Yale University, and neurology residency at Washington University in St Louis, and he is board certified in both specialties. He also completed a fellowship in deep brain stimulation in movement disorders at Washington University.
Dr. de Erausquin is currently Zachry Foundation Distinguished Professor of Neurology, and Director of the Laboratory for Brain Development, Modulation and Repair at the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Disorders, as well as and Division Chief of Electrophysiology Imaging at the Research Imaging Institute at University of Texas Health San Antonio.
Since the onset of the pandemic, Dr. de Erausquin has led the Alzheimer’s Association Consortium on Chronic Neuropsychiatric Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2, an effort involving scientists in more than 30 countries and supported by the World Health Organization. He is also a permanent member of the WHO NeuroCOVID forum, and of the National Institute of Health’s Alzheimer’s Disease Sequencing Project advisory work on COVID-19 sequelae.
