Sandra Kletzel received her PhD in Neuroscience from Loyola University, Chicago, in 2013. Her research focus is neurorehabilitation and neurobiology of cognitive impairment in geriatric populations, with particular focus on Parkinson’s disease (PD). Her research goals are to study and develop cognitive neurorehabilitation interventions that maximizes functional outcomes for Veterans with Parkinson's disease (PD) who are experiencing cognitive decline. She completed a post doc fellowship and Career Development Award, level one, at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital. She is currently the PI of a VA RR&D SPiRE Award and an RR&D CDA-2 award, examining how different interventions (prospective implementation intentions strategies, web-based executive function computerized cognitive training, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation) impact cognition and everyday function in Veterans with PD and mild cognitive impairment. We is also PI of a multidisciplinary pilot study examining the role of intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells on visuospatial function in Veterans with with PD. Dr. Kletzel has been a member of ACRM since 2013. She has held leadership roles in both the Measurement networking group and neurodegenerative networking group. She is currently co-chair of the Parkinson's disease and related disorders task force.
