Nicola de Souza, PhD, recently completed her doctoral research at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences under the supervision of Dr. Carrie Esopenko. Dr. de Souza is now a postdoctoral fellow at the Brain Injury Research Center at Mount Sinai with Dr. Kristen Dams-O'Connor. Her research uses neuroimaging techniques (DTI, fMRI) to probe the effects of traumatic brain injury on cognitive, psychological, and neural processes across the lifespan. She is particularly interested in how individual factors such as sex, age, and mental health can moderate outcomes, which will contribute to our understanding of functional impairments and inform rehabilitation strategies after brain injury.
