Amy Shapiro-Rosenbaum, Ph.D., FACRM is Director of the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Rehabilitation Program at Park Terrace Care Center, an inpatient brain injury rehabilitation facility in Queens, NY. Dr. Shapiro-Rosenbaum is responsible for overseeing interdisciplinary treatment planning, program planning and development, as well as all TBI-related staff education and training. She is also directly responsible for clinical oversight of the center’s neuropsychology, cognitive rehabilitation, coma recovery and coma management programs. Dr. Shapiro-Rosenbaum serves as a TBI Model System Investigator and adjunct faculty for the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is also co-founder of BrainMatters Neuropsychological Services, a community-based practice offering specialized neuropsychological assessment, education, training, and support to individuals with brain injury and their caregivers.
Dr. Shapiro-Rosenbaum’s clinical and research interests include disorders of consciousness, post-traumatic confusional state, cognitive rehabilitation, evidence-based practice, neuropsychological assessment, and psychotherapy after brain injury. She has numerous publications in peer reviewed journals, on-line, and in textbooks. She is a primary author of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) “Cognitive Rehabilitation Manual: Translating Evidence-Based Recommendations into Practice”, and is the managing co-editor of the upcoming 2nd Edition manual and textbook. Dr. Shapiro-Rosenbaum is also actively involved in leading national efforts to improve caregiver and professional access to quality brain injury related education and training materials. Her work has been presented at professional trainings and conferences both nationally and internationally. She serves as Co-Chair of ACRM BI-ISIG Cognitive Rehabilitation Task Force and ACRM Cognitive Rehabilitation Manual and Training Faculty. She is also Chair of the Public Awareness and Advocacy Workgroup and Co-Chair of the Family Education subcommittee of the Joint NIDRR and ACRM BI-ISIG Disorders of Consciousness Task Force.
