Equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) efforts have an integral role in higher education. Many universities have developed offices for EDI, recruited EDI leaders, and created EDI statements. EDI efforts on campuses include drafting public statements denouncing the murders of people of color, statements in solidarity with communities of color, and even crafting land acknowledgement statements. However, some have criticized these efforts, especially if done in the absence of other actions, on the basis of their being performative and not truly dismantling structural and systemic racism in higher education (Barber et al., 2020; Burke, 2020). Continuing to leave unaddressed the systems that contribute to inequities in higher education can have negative outcomes for the social and psychosocial well-being of people of color (Burke, 2020). This series of talks provides different approaches to addressing systemic racism in and advance equity and inclusion in higher education. Presenter Mujica uses data from a qualitative study to describe various individual and institutional strategies that racial justice activists of color at a predominantly White institution believe protect their mental health. Presenter Das explores how enhancing critical consciousness can protect Asian students from the negative effects of departmental racism. Presenter Narine discusses how clinical psychology as a field can further support AAPI trainees using an anti-racist framework. Finally, Dr. Fuentes discusses organizational strategies to promote an inclusive culture in APA-accredited health service psychology programs. Together, these talks highlight approaches that translate the ideals of EDI into concrete, action-focused, intentional practices.
