Rehabilitation interventions for oncological patients have shown to play a role on increasing longevity among cancer patients as well as quality of life. The exercise guidelines for cancer survivors highlight the impact of exercise in cancer related complications including fatigue, mood disorders and lymphedema. However, cancer survivors encounter several different challenges that limit their ability to exercise and participate in rehabilitation interventions. Some of these challenges include healthcare access, side effects related to treatment and the psychosocial constructs affecting the care and access to cancer rehabilitation. During this session, we will highlight challenges to access cancer rehabilitation care and present our research findings on challenges faced by cancer patients to the recommendations made by cancer physiatrists. We will discuss ways to overcome these challenges with the implementation and use of the patient reported outcomes in different cancer rehabilitation settings.
