Sandra P. Ogletree, MD, Lieutenant Commander, Medical Corps, United States Navy, Pain Fellow- Brigham and Women's Hospital
Dr. Ogletree graduated from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine in 2014 and moved across the country from her hometown of San Diego to start her internship in pediatrics at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. Rather than applying to continue straight through for completion of pediatrics residency, she chose to leave residency and go the Navy General Medical Officer(GMO) route, requesting an active duty station with the Marines. She flew back across the country to Camp Pendleton to serve as the Battalion Surgeon for 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines for two years and it was during her time as a physician for Marines she found her passion for physiatry. She always points to her time with the USMC as a pivotal point in her career and where she learned the crucial role for pain management in transforming the lives of people of all ages. Before leaving active duty in 2019 to complete her residency in physiatry at Mayo Clinic, she completed an additional two-year GMO tour supervising and training mid-level Navy providers on warships in San Diego. She always planned to be a "career Navy physician" and so chose to commission to the active Navy Reserves during her residency training. Dr. Ogletree was called back to active duty in April 2020 for two months to serve in civilian ICUs during the military's humanitarian response to the overwhelming COVID-19 crisis in New York City. Having had a love for Boston since her first trip to the city during Officer Boot Camp in 2014, she moved there after residency where she is now completing her fellowship. She has two amazing children and remains a Naval Reserve Officer.
