Dr. David P. Steinberg serves as the inaugural Chair of the Department of PM&R at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He serves as the Executive Medical Director of the Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital which opened in May, 2020 to serve the comprehensive medical rehabilitation needs of patients across the Mountain West and beyond. Dr. Steinberg graduated from Harvard College, completed his M.D. at the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine, and completed his internship and PM&R residency at Northwestern University and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (AKA Shirley Ryan Ability Lab). He is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabiltation with subspecialty board certification in Pain Management. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Utah in 2018 Dr. Steinberg was a partner with Associates in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and a member of the medical staff at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI for 23 years. He served in a variety of leadership roles including Medical Director of Rehabilitation Services, Chief of the Medical Staff, and Vice Chair of Internal Medicine Department. He completed his Masters in Medical Management at Carnegie Mellon University in 2018. He now serves as Vice Chair of the AAPM&R Inpatient Rehabilitation Community and Vice Chair of the AAP Chairs Council. Professional interests include every facet of neurorehabilitation, physician wellness, quality and systems improvement, and advocacy for healthy communities. Dr. Steinberg and his family love the mountains and trails of Utah but maintain strong ties to Michigan.
