Dr. Kathryne Bartolo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she is the co-director of the PM&R Residency Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Workshop Series. Prior to attending medical school, she was awarded an international Fulbright Fellowship to conduct celiac disease-related research at the Istituto di Scienze dell’Alimentazione (Institute of Food Sciences) in Avellino, Italy. Upon her return to the United States, she earned her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. She then completed residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School/Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation and fellowship training in Sports Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital – the University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell. In additional to her primary specialty of PM&R, she also holds subspecialty certification in Sports Medicine.
Dr. Bartolo has an interest in Esports Health and has pioneered this area at UNC-Chapel Hill. In her role as physician advisor to the UNC-CH Esports Teams, she developed the Esports Health & Wellness Workshop series that educates players on health topics related to esports performance through interactive sessions. She also co-created the Esports Health and Performance Initiative (EHPI) at UNC-Chapel which is focused on elevating the health and performance of esports players by providing specialized medical care informed by the production of original research and development of evidence-based guidelines.
