Dr. Ai Mukai is board certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine. She practices in Austin Texas at Texas Orthopedics, Sports and Rehabiliation Associates, a division of OrthoLoneStar, the largest independent orthopedic practice in Texas. She is also affiliate faculty for University of Texas Austin Dell Medical School PM&R residency program.

Dr. Mukai specializes in musculoskeletal and spine medicine and electrodiagnostic medicine. Dr. Mukai served on the Board of Governors of the AAPM&R for 5 years as chair of the membership committee. She currently serves as co-editor of The Physiatrist Newsletter, a montly publication of the AAPM&R. She has won various Top Doctor awards and patient care awards, and received the Distinguished Clinician Award from the AAPM&R in 2019. She is also a member of the SpineUniverse Editorial Board.

After obtaining her bachelor degree in psychology from Barnard College of Columbia University, she attended medical school at Penn State University. Dr. Mukai completed her physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at Northwestern University’s Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (now known as Shirly Ryan Ability Lab), earning numerous academic and leadership awards. She completed her pain medicine fellowship at the University of California Los Angeles West Los Angeles VA program. Her more recent interest include integrative medicine and biologic treatments including Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and stem cell therapy.
