Session Description: We are proposing an educational session with a focus on hyperhydrosis and other cutting edge limb loss rehabilitation topics. Hyperhydrosis is a seldom discussed topic that is important in the care of people with amputations. Recent evidence for efficacy of treatment will be reviewed.
Phantom limb pain, pressure ulcers, and socket fit difficulties are some of the most common problems people with amputations face during rehabilitation. In the second portion of the session we will discuss novel surgical techniques for the management of phantom limb pain and the indications for referral, novel research using fibroblasts to foster skin resilience and pressure sore prevention, and the indications/use of osseointegration for patients who fail to use traditional prosthesis due to socket issues.

Should this session offer CME? : Yes, this is a 3 hour session; CME should be available for 2.75 hours (there will be a 15 minute break).

Length of Session: We are proposing a 3-hour program with short targeted lectures, demonstrations, and interactive learning.

Learning Objectives:

Understand the significance of hyperhidrosis to amputee patients and the available literature on treatment.
Learn a treatment algorithm including the use of the iodine-starch test in helping target hyperhidrotic areas on the residual limb for botulinum toxin injections.
Understand data on recently completed studies on hyperhidrosis.
Understand the nerve management surgical techniques that can be used for conservative treatment resistant phantom limb pain.
Understand the evolution of osseointegration and the appropriate candidates for the procedure
