Audits have been a common tool of CMS and private payors for many years. If a practice or provider are audited, simple errors
in documentation may result in the practice or provider having to return significant amounts of money. Pain management, and
many physiatry-related procedures are common targets for auditors, leaving physiatrists vulnerable.
