Lifestyle is the root cause of > 80% of chronic disease, healthcare costs, and premature death. Lifestyle Medicine is an established, board certifiable field of medicine that focuses on the prevention, treatment and reversal of chronic disease by improving health behaviors. PM&R and Lifestyle Medicine have a rich history that supports physiatrists who are now, or who have the potential to become, leaders in the field of Lifestyle Medicine. This session provides the history of PM&R and Lifestyle Medicine and presents research on the current views of PM&R residents on their awareness of, current use of, and interest in Lifestyle Medicine education and leadership. This session reviews why Lifestyle Medicine should be in the toolbox of all physiatrists and practical steps to become a leader in Lifestyle Medicine through education at all stage of training, from medical school to practicing physiatrist.
