Research has demonstrated that vertebral body endplates are a significant source of a subset of chronic axial low back pain. Nociception from this structure is transmitted via the basivertebral nerve. In this session you will improve your understanding of vertebrogenic pain as it relates to chronic low back pain, and how to recognize it in your practice. The science of vertebrogenic pain will be discussed including the relevant neuroanatomy, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and imaging. Finally, attendees will learn about recent and emerging evidence on treatment with basivertebral nerve radiofrequency ablation, and then examine how to conceptualize this paradigm shift within the greater context of chronic low back pain care.
