Quality improvement (QI) is an essential element in improving all areas of medicine, and is part of continuing certification requirements for the ABPMR (American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation). The process of QI involves making small changes in a practice or process that add up over time to make an impact, and this process is not meant to be a solo effort. Gathering a team to complete QI leads to a more valuable and fulfilling improvement process, as team members give necessary insight on what improvements are needed, how to best make improvements, and the effect and outcome of these changes on a practice and its patients.
Quality improvement teams can be difficult to create and maintain, and the ABPMR has not released details on how to create and maintain a strong QI team. This frequently represents a barrier to effective quality improvement initiatives. This session will provide skills and techniques on how to engage potential team members to develop quality improvement opportunities, as well as maintain this engagement to execute quality improvement projects with your team that make important and impactful changes.
