The body of research and information about health after spinal cord injury has increased significantly over the years. As the majority of the individuals who sustain spinal cord injuries are male, the data and guidelines we utilize are largely based on research conducted on the male population. To date, ~20% of newly diagnosed spinal cord injuries are women, but there are many generalizations made about the needs of women and their care in addition to a lack of robust data. This also leads to an information gap with not only women with spinal cord injuries, but also some of the medical providers that care for these patients. Noting this, our group has worked to discuss the needs of women with spinal cord injuries in health care and create learning modules to assist future. The goal of tis session is to discuss some of the specifics of women’s health after spinal cord injury. In addition, we aim to introduce our modules and share the importance education on this topic to both providers and their patients.
