This session will provide an overview of the special rehabilitation needs, as well as necessary precautions, for patients with advanced heart failure. The panelists will discuss rehabilitation considerations for patients with milrinone drips, ventricular assist devices, wearable debrillators, and heart transplants.

Learning Objectives:

Identify the rehabilitation precautions necessary for individuals with very low ejection fractions, including those with left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) or wearable defibrillators.
Describe key elements of an interdisciplinary inpatient rehabilitation program for persons with LVADs.
Review therapy considerations for those who have undergone cardiac transplantation.
Identify safety issues with the chronic use of intravenous milrinone in post-acute and home settings.
