In this section, Dr. Brooks will describe the current availability of palliative care education for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) residents and the rationale for palliative care education for PM&R physicians at all levels. He will review opportunities for PM&R physicians to pursue both formal and informal training in palliative care. This will include a discussion of the Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship (including options for mid-career physicians) as well as a descriptive overview of palliative care learning resources and patient education materials available for PM&R physicians (both trainees and practicing clinicians) to independently develop palliative care knowledge and skills. Dr. Brooks will engage participants in a conversation about strategies for embedding palliative care education into routine education for PM&R residents as well.
