In this section, Dr. Cheville will use case-based discussion to highlight opportunities for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) physicians to incorporate a palliative care lens into clinical encounters for patients who could benefit most. She will review selected palliative care tools and strategies PM&R physicians can embrace, including assessment tools for identifying needs across physical, emotional, and existential domains and palliative communication frameworks to support conversations around prognosis and goal setting relevant to the rehabilitation setting. Dr. Cheville will then oversee facilitated small group work, in which participants will identify opportunities for including a palliative approach within their own practice settings as well as opportunities for teaching key palliative care concepts and skills to trainees and colleagues. Her session will close with a 10 minute Q&A session.
