Purpose: To assess the comfort level of practicing pediatric dentists on using the Hall Technique to treat asymptomatic carious lesions on primary molars. The goals of this study are to 1. Determine the comfort level of practitioners from different training backgrounds, regions, and generations on using Hall Crown Technique, and 2. Determine preference for treatment with traditional stainless steel crowns vs Hall Technique have changed since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional study in which data collection will occur over a period of 4 months, from December, 2021 to February, 2022. A national online survey to be sent to all members of the AAPD, excluding current pediatric dental residents, via email consisting of 18 questions regarding multiple variables that can help better understand providers comfort level and training in Hall Technique. Data collection and analysis will then be completed by study personnel and reported during the AAPD conference.
Results: Upon compilation of survey answers to determine the effectiveness of continuing education, dental school training, and post-doctoral training in increasing comfort levels and management of small carious lesions on primary teeth with the Hall Crown Technique.
Conclusion: The results of the study should display how practitioners across the United States are treating primary molar teeth with carious lesions.
