Teledentistry is defined as the ‘provision of real time and offline dental care such as diagnosis, treatment planning, consulting and follow-up via electronic transmission from different sites’. It improves access to oral health care, the delivery of oral healthcare and lowers its costs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, American Dental Association (ADA) issues the guidelines state that all nonemergency oral health care facilities should be postponed and only emergency care is to be provided. Since teledentistry characterizes of overcoming physical distance, dentists have increased the application of teledentistry during these past 2 years. As for pediatric dentistry, teledentistry weight even more important since children are more susceptible to acquire infection than adults.
This poster will present a case of a 13-year-old girl who initiated the orthodontic treatment in Loma Linda University Pediatric Dentistry Clinic during lockdown period. The consultation and all the explanation of treatment option were done via synchronous teledentistry. The poster will review the literatures of teledentistry with its application in the field of pediatric dentistry, as well as discuss its advantage and limitation.
