This case report describes the multidisciplinary approach to treatment of a lesion in the mandible of a medically complex patient at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. A 15-year-old male with significant developmental/cognitive delay, cerebral palsy, scoliosis, and asthma presented for his dental recall exam with a hard swelling, approximately 4 cm in diameter. The swelling could be palpated on the right mandible, buccal and lingual to tooth #30. The oral surgery department was consulted, and the patient underwent resection of a significant portion of the right mandible including teeth #28-32. The pathology report determined the lesion was a cementoblastoma. The patient required an additional surgery to extract a periodontally compromised tooth #24, restore caries, and take upper and lower impressions. A removable splint was fabricated to prevent supraeruption of the maxillary teeth, as his developmental delay prohibits him from tolerating a traditional removable prosthesis at this time.
