Dentinogenesis Imperfecta (DI) is a genetic disorder affecting the development of dentin that is often associated with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI). DI can have varying severities but typically presents with soft dentin, crowns with amber translucence, and loss of enamel due to the poorly developed underlying dentin. The dental management of patients with both DI and OI requires careful planning and thorough discussions regarding risks, benefits, and alternatives.
This case report describes the dental treatment and management of an 11-year-old female patient with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) Type III and Dentinogenesis Imperfecta (DI) Type I. The patient presented to Healthy Smiles for Kids of Orange County for a dental consultation. Clinical examination was significant for overall small stature, over-retained primary teeth, amber translucence of permanent crowns, and caries. This case demonstrates the considerations in planning and performing treatment on a patient with OI and DI.
