Volunteering have been shown to have a positive impact on a person’s wellness. There are many ways that oral and maxillofacial surgeons could give back to the profession and the community in general. This plenary session will illustrate the state of volunteerism in oral and maxillofacial surgery. The speakers will discuss the value of volunteering and describe a variety of opportunities to get involved such as in surgical missions, mentoring, teaching and service in local, regional and national societies.

Review the role of oral and maxillofacial surgeon in international medical missions.
Discuss non-surgical volunteer opportunities in the specialty.
Describe the characteristics of a good volunteer.
Demonstrate OMS resident’s role in volunteerism in OMS.
