Dr. Montes grew up in Spokane, Washington. He served in the U.S. Army from 1987 - 1991 and was awarded the National Defense Service Ribbon and the U.S. Army Meritorious Service Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster). He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from University of the Pacific, San Francisco, in 2000. He completed a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at University Hospital, Fresno. He then completed fellowships in Maxillofacial Surgical Oncology at the University of California San Francisco; Oral, Head and Neck Oncology and Microvascular Head and Neck Reconstruction and Pediatric Cleft Lip and Palate, Craniofacial Surgery fellowship at the Louisiana University Health Sciences Cente, Shreveport.
Dr. Montes currently maintains a full scope practice, including oncology and reconstruction with Indiana Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates. Dr. Montes previously served as Clinical Assistant Professor and the Residency Program Director with Indian University School of Dentistry. Prior to moving to Indiana, he was the Chairman of Maxillofacial/Head and Neck Surgery at Sanford Health in Fargo, North Dakota. He has served as an examinor with the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and as a CODA Specialty Site Visitor for residency and fellowship training certification. He has published several book chapters and peer-reviewed articles related to oral and maxillofacial oncology and reconstruction.
