Professor Steinberg graduated Hofstra University with a BA in Biology in (1974) followed by a Masters in Biology from the same institution (1976). He went on to receive three Doctoral Degrees - PhD from New York University, A Dental degree from New York University and Medical degree from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine (received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2008). He did his surgical training at Mt. Carmel, Columbus Ohio and Medical College of Virginia. Col Steinberg served on faculty at the Ohio State University followed by University of Michigan where he was the residency program director. Subsequently, he came to the University of Florida in 1998 as Chief and Associate Dean. Presently, he is now Director of the Pediatric Craniofacial Program and Chief of Pediatric Maxillofacial at Wolfson Children’s Hospital and covers pediatric head and neck trauma call at a level I trauma center. Professor Steinberg is also Program Director for the Pediatric Craniomaxillofacial Fellowship at the University of Florida.
Col Steinberg has made many volunteer missions to help children overseas. In 1998, he founded the Facing Futures Foundation that has brought children with severe deformities to the USA for correction. Since then he made 27 mission trips to Vietnam and have trained their Doc’s on how to do the procedures themselves.
Col Steinberg joined the Jacksonville Florida Sheriff’s Office in 2001. He serves as a Reserve Officer and Medical Advisor to the department. While he has done ops with narcotics and other divisions, his main role is with the SWAT Team where he goes on high risk warrants, hostage situations and with on barricaded suspects’ missions. He was the Officer of the Year in 2003 and received the Life Saving Award the same year. He helped develop a tactical medic program for SWAT, official SWAT team member since 2003. Col Steinberg has also lectured and consulted at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center on Ballistics and Officer Survival.
He received an Airborne tab 2008. Col Steinberg has been on 2 combat tours (volunteered deployments). He was in Anbar Province, Iraq on a tour in 2008. Prior to that, he graduated from Airborne School and went on to become Deputy Command Surgeon for the United Stated Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operation Command (Airborne) at Ft Bragg. In January 2010, he was deployed to Afghanistan with NATO (ISAF) Forces. There he served as an advisor to the Afghan National Security forces in the south including Kandahar. He was involved with Operation Moshtarak which signaled the renewed US push against the Taliban. Col Steinberg’s responsibilities required he be embedded with very small NATO and Afghan troops in the South during combat operations. Since his return, he has been assigned as a DIMA at the JFK Special Warfare Center and school within the Special Operations Command. He remains on active paratrooper status at Ft Brag
