Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology
Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis
Lauren E. Henke, MD, MSCI. I have been an Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at Washington University in St. Louis since July 2019. I currently lead the department’s Adaptive Radiation Therapy (RT) Working Group which combines physicians and physicists to expand state-of-the-art adaptive RT particularly for our ViewRay MRI-Linac and Varian Ethos systems. Prior to my current appointment, I was medical student, intern, and resident at Washington University in St. Louis during which I conducted clinical research in radiation therapy.
My research has focused on the clinical development of novel radiotherapeutic technologies, particularly in the clinical inception and advancement of magnetic resonance image-guided radiation therapy (MR-IGRT) and adaptive radiotherapy (ART) techniques. I have written multiple clinical trials testing the applications of MR-IGRT, such as the original Phase I trial demonstrating the feasibility of online adaptive radiotherapy. I have also written the initial trials evaluating use of MR-IGRT and MRI-only planning to accelerate clinical workflows, such as for “simulation free” spine SBRT and “simulation free” palliative radiation therapy. Additionally, I have completed a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) program with concentration in clinical trial design and biostatistics. With my training and background, I continue to build collaborative research efforts between the Clinical and Medical Physics Divisions of the Department of Radiation Oncology. My national service includes serving on the Oncologic Imaging and Therapies Task Force of the Radiologic Society of North America.
I have active research collaborations and publications with Drs. Gach and Kim. I am pleased to work on this novel R01 research project since the resulting technology will advance my clinical aims.
