Know if your child has experienced fainting, dizziness or lightheadedness, chest pain or shortness of breath with exertion, a racing heart or extreme fatigue. Report these to your medical provider and schedule an #ECG screening to be sure their heart is ready to play.

With the news that Panera will remove from its menu Charged Sips drinks, which have an exceedingly high caffeine content often above typical energy drinks but were not labeled as such, our hearts are with the family and friends of 21-year-old Sarah Katz, who was lost to #SCA in 2022 after drinking Panera's Charged Lemonade. Panera's online menu now includes "caffeine sensitivity" language.

A study presented at the Pediatric Academic Societies annual meeting called out the need to address inconsistencies in preparticipation physical evaluations (PPE) for sports among school-aged children, citing a need to both standardize intake questions and promote universal use to limit overlooking critical input needed to properly evaluate risk of medical complications, including cardiovascular.

Florida's Manatee County is among the first in the nation to launch a drone program that can deliver an #AED to a cardiac emergency. The government program is a partnership with Tampa General Hospital and Archer First Response Systems.

Kudos to 18-year-old Grace Kyle who in partnership with Simon's Heart organized a heart screening for her Mount Saint Joseph Academy classmates in memory of her sister, Caroline, who died in 2022 from an undetected heart condition.
