When I picked up Dali L. Yang's book 'Wuhan: How the COVID-19 Outbreak in China Spiraled out of Control' I'll admit it was with some trepidation — did I really want to read about the origins of the pandemic? I'm glad to have done so, however. This piece of meticulous research not only helps us to understand how and why Covid rampaged through Wuhan in those fateful weeks in the 2019-20 winter; it also demonstrates how political incentives in China created an environment in which vital information was not allowed to circulate, leading to crucial misunderstandings and policy errors. I'm grateful to Professor Yang for taking the time to talk through some of the themes of the book for this Q&A in The Wire China. https://lnkd.in/eJNSjxHi
