Preserving Medicaid and CHIP Coverage
As states across the country review their Medicaid programs and determine who is still eligible, the Academy is undertaking extensive advocacy efforts to ensure children do not inappropriately lose their health care coverage and equipping pediatricians with tools to help inform families.
Community Health and Advocacy
The AAP Community Health and Advocacy Initiatives – Community Access to Child Health (CATCH), Community Pediatric Training Initiative (CPTI), and Council on Community Pediatrics (COCP) – support pediatricians and other healthcare providers in their efforts to better understand and advocate for a culture of health in their communities that ensures every child reaches their optimal health and well-being.

Assault Weapons Bans
The federal assault weapons ban prohibited the sale and manufacture of certain military-style semiautomatic weapons and high capacity magazines in the U.S. but expired in 2004.
