Cats are very talented in hiding clinical signs of some infectious disease agents, in particular, the blood-borne infections. Even when clinical signs such as fever develop, it can be hard to determine the primary cause of disease with routine tests. The purpose of this lecture is to use case examples to emphasize logical diagnostic plans for cats with infectious disease “mysteries”.

Learning Objectives:

To understand the infectious disease differential diagnoses for common clinical signs of disease in cats, with an emphasis on fever
To learn how to use the combination of serological and nucleic acid amplification test like PCR to attempt to determine infectious causes on clinical illness in cats
To review logical treatment plans for cats with select infectious diseases
