This session presents a series of echocardiography "unknowns" using a "What's your Diagnosis" format. Brief clinical vignettes with key echocardiographic images will be presented for audience diagnosis and then reviewed. The focus is acquired canine and feline heart diseases.
Explain an approach for reviewing 2D echocardiograms and identifying pericardial, myocardial and valvular heart diseases.
Explain the limitations of 2D echocardiography for assessment of valvular diseases and shunts.
List the key echo findings of cardiac tamponade and offer a differential diagnosis for this condition.
Contrast the 2D imaging features of the various forms of canine and feline cardiomyopathies.
List the key 2D imaging features of myxomatous mitral valve disease in the dog.
List the 2D echocardiographic findings typical of moderate to severe pulmonary hypertension
Define and draw ventricular dyssynchrony on the M-mode echocardiogram and explain its impact on fractional shortening.
