This session will discuss the laboratory interpretation of liver enzymes in the dog and cat and what to do with the patient that has no clinical signs but abnormal liver enzymes. When is therapy indicated, when should a liver biopsy be recommended and how to interpret the results will be discussed. Case examples will be presented including common causes.
Upon completion, participant will understand the reasons for increased liver enzyme concentrations and abnormal bile acids
Upon completion, participant will be able to formulate a diagnostic plan for the patient with liver enzyme abnormalities
Upon completion, participant will be able to determine if a liver biopsy is indicated and the methods for collecting liver tissue and what to do with the liver sample.
