President and CEO
Actuated Medical, Inc.
Maureen L. Mulvihill co-founded Actuated Medical, Inc. (AMI) on the entrepreneurial idea that they could solve clinical needs using electronically controlled motion. AMI is one of the few MedTech companies led by a female CEO and is also a certified WOSB. Over the last 15 years, Maureen built a central Pennsylvania company that develops, manufactures and sells medical devices. By establishing an ‘internal’ start-up ecosystem, her team has the infrastructure to incubate creative ideas and quickly test. Those ideas that demonstrate market potential are developed to commercial exits. To endure the long timelines of medical device regulatory approvals and sales, AMI differentiates from others by using a diverse financing model (e.g., SBIRs, sales, equity and debt). Due to COVID-19, AMI quickly reacted and within 7 days stood up a reusable face shield manufacturing line - shipping shields to first responders, manufacturers, and schools. The product line grew over due to calls from businesses, schools, and parents to include reusable face shields for children, hard hats, and sports helmets. In 2020, AMI grew in people and doubled their footprint to accommodate manufacturing scale-up.
Maureen is honored to be the Life Sciences PA 2020 Frank Baldino Bioscience CEO of the Year. She has been recognized over 34 times nationally and internationally for her entrepreneurial leadership. She was a US delegate to the Global Entrepreneurship Summit in India. She sits on the AdvaMed BOD, AdvaMed Accel BOD and Life Sciences PA BOD representing small emerging MedTech companies. She also sits on the Industrial Advisory Board for the Penn State Center for Biodevices and Regional Board for Kish Bank. She is an alumnus of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business program. AMI is the recipient of two SBA’s Tibbets Awards for SBIR commercialization excellence. She received her Ph.D. from Penn State.
