Using a case study to describe the experience and evolution of Birmingham, Ala., the presenter tells a success story in overcoming deeply rooted disparities cardiac arrest survival. In particular, it will highlight opportunities for community engagement in a culturally contextualized and cost-effective manner.
Synopsis of Presentation: Evidence of disparities in health care exist across a range of illnesses and healthcare services. In the case of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, wide variations persist in survival and neurologic recovery and are influenced by multiple factors. In this session, Dr. Kurz will describe the evolution of the four-minute city concept using the case study of Birmingham, Ala. In particular, it will highlight opportunities for best practices for community engagement. He’ll also highlight opportunities to rapidly scale up the four-minute city concept to other municipalities.
