Almost one in five Americans have a disability, representing a significant number of people who may struggle with physical, developmental, intellectual, psychiatric, or neurological challenges. Many dental providers do not have a comfort level with this population as this skill was not widely taught in dental schools prior to the last decade. A review of the most common disabilities is presented along with tips and tricks for treating this "hidden population" in your own practice.

List the main types of developmental disabilities
Describe management techiniques for treating patinets with special needs
Apply the principles presented to clinical practice
