Jennifer Hershman, Community Relations Manager – Jennifer Hershman has worked in the solar industry for 10 years. As the Community Relations Manager for Swinerton Renewable Energy (SRE), Jennifer’s role is to partner with non-profit organizations in communities where SRE lives and works by helping employees engage with partnered organizations through volunteer work and fundraising events.
SRE has partnered with organizations including the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, the Heart of America Foundation, Girl Scouts, Strategic Energy Innovations (SEI), Solar Energy International, Ronald McDonald House Charities, and the Wampler Foundation. Jennifer also manages SRE’s educational program, PowerUp! Empowered Education. This program provides free learning resources and STEM education to K-12 youth in underserved areas.
Before joining SRE, Jennifer worked in the Commercial Construction and Development industry as a Project Manager, Pre-Construction Manager, and Owners Representative. Her client work focused on mid-to-high rise construction management, land and building acquisitions, and managing related design and construction teams through project completion. Jennifer made the switch to solar back in 2008, when she was working as a Pre-Construction Manager at Swinerton Builders.
SRE is a recognized community leader within the solar industry. In 2020, SRE was recognized as a Cleanie Award winner for its PowerUp! Empowered Education program. A collaboration between Heart of America and other partners, PowerUp! provided resource packs for students and families across Navajo Nation to support children with remote learning. The resource packs include markers, pencils, notebooks, STEM learning activities, books, PPE masks, hand sanitizer, reusable straws, and a Goal Zero Crush Light.
SRE was also recognized by local UN San Diego Chapter for the Climate Controller Girl Scout lesson patch about food rescue with Feeding San Diego.
Jennifer was born and raised in San Diego, California. Jennifer went to San Diego State University where she earned a Certificate in Construction Management. She lives in Coronado with her husband, daughter, and loveable lab, Roxy. Outside of work, Jennifer loves to travel, needlepoint, and garden.
