How All of the Many Changes to Codes and Standards are Impacting the Energy Storage Industry
It seems at times, that the various changes to codes, regulations and standards for energy storage systems are constantly changing. This has a big impact on the industry and its various stakeholders. What does a stakeholder interested in installing energy storage need to know with regard to the applicable codes, safety standards and certifications, and large scale fire testing requirements so they are not blindsided by some aspect of what is being applied that could greatly delay or even prevent that installation from occurring? For example, you have a UL 9540A test to the 3rd edition, but now UL 9540A is on the 4th edition. Is the 3rd edition report still usable? This presentation will go through various changes to the codes and UL safety standards including the safety standard for ESS, UL 9540 2nd edition, and the BESS large scale fire testing method UL 9540A 4th edition, so that attendees are aware of what to expect as well as changes to codes impacting their systems. This includes a better idea of the differences between UL 9540A 3rd edition and the 4th edition as well as pending changes being proposed to consider.
