Highview Power is developing long duration energy storage systems in the U.S., the UK, Spain, and Chile based on the company’s proven and innovative liquid air energy storage technology. These facilities will each provide a minimum of 50MW capacity and between six and ten hours of storage. Each facility will help its region in its path towards a carbon free energy future while helping to improve system flexibility and resiliency. The deployment of these systems are enabling continued renewable energy integration by providing system balancing and load shifting capabilities while also helping to resolve existing transmission challenges. The process is simple. It captures air from the atmosphere, liquifies it, and stores it. Upon system demand, the stored liquid air is converted back to a gas and discharged to create electricity that is fed to the grid. The Highview Power system emits no emissions, is easy to site, safe to build and operate, and has a 30+ year life with no degradation.
