Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) are evolving from static singular systems to fleets of assets and Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) that will be interconnected with the broader grid. This network evolution requires fundamental attributes commonplace with traditional power providers such as, security and resiliency, in order to realize true value propositions. We discuss security of DERs, specifically around three key areas: connectivity, cybersecurity, and access controls. Additionally, we identify and compare different stakeholder perspectives of each.
