Dr Lisa Hornberger is the Section Head of Echocardiography for the Stollery Children’s Hospital, oversees the Fetal & Neonatal Cardiology Program, and is a Professor of Pediatrics (Division of Cardiology) and Obstetric & Gynecology at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. For nearly 2 decades she has been involved in clinical, educational and research endeavors in fetal cardiovascular health and disease. She has published over 160 articles and co-authored textbooks in the clinical and fundamental sciences focused on the early diagnosis, evolution, management and outcomes of fetal heart disease and gthe impact of maternal disease on fetal and neonatal cardiovascular health. She has established 4 world class fetal cardiovascular programs. Her research over the past 2 decades which has spanned clinical, health services, population and fundamental research pillars, and has focused on the prenatal diagnosis from the first trimester, natural evolution, management and outcome of structural, functional and rhythm related cardiovascular disorders detected in utero. More recently she has evolved interests in the circulation of the perinatal transition, impact of the exposome on cardiovascular health, in prenatal predictors of worse neurodevelopmental outcomes and in cardiovascular programming related to early (prenatal and neonatal) life exposures.
