Dr. Ponnila Marinescu is a third year Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellow at the University of Rochester Medical Center. She obtained her medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, NY, and matched to the University of Virginia for residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Upon graduation, Dr. Marinescu worked as a generalist OB-GYN in Columbus, NY, focusing her practice specifically towards obstetrics. As noted above, she is now completing her training with a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center.
Dr. Marinescu’s research interests have focused on using uterine electromyography as a means for understanding both the physiology of uterine contractions and the implication of different uterine signaling patterns on preterm and term labor. She is currently completing her thesis on identifying unique uterine signaling patterns in pregnant women with short cervices. She is now also engaging in epidemiological studies assessing social determinants of health as they related to preterm birth and COVID-19.
Notably, Dr. Marinescu has a strong interest in medical student and resident education and has been recognized with several teaching awards throughout her early career. She resides in Fairport, NY, with her husband. Her hobbies include sailing, ballroom dancing, and reading historical fiction novels.
