François Raffi obtained his MD qualification from Nantes Medical University in 1982 and a PhD in Pharmacology and Microbiology in Paris in 1987.
He is currently Professor of Infectious and Tropical Diseases at Nantes Medical University, a post he has held since 1993. He is also Head of the Department of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, at the Hotel-Dieu University Hospital in Nantes, and Head of the HIV and Chronic Hepatitis Clinical Research Unit and AIDS Reference Center in Nantes, which caters for 2500 patients.
Professor Raffi is a member of the NEAT-ID Executive Committee. He is also a member of the European AIDS Clinical Society Guidelines Committee, and numerous national and international HIV/AIDS advisory boards.
Over recent years, he has been the Principal Investigator in several national (ANRS) and international Phase I-III trials in HIV infection therapy and has chaired many scientific conferences and symposia on AIDS. He published more than 450 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
He was the chair of NEAT 001 /ANRS 143 European RCT in HIV.
