Biostatistician and Investigator

Mary Anne Armstrong, MA, has 40 years of experience at the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research (KPNC DOR), as both a Biostatistician and an Investigator in a variety of research areas, including women’s health, substance abuse during pregnancy; alcohol and cardiovascular disease and cancer; racial/ethnic disparities in various diseases; and neonatology. She has authored or co-authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications in these and other research areas and has vast experience presenting study results locally and at national conferences, as well as lecturing on research principles and statistical methods to various clinician audiences. She has extensive experience successfully administering, providing biostatistical support to and conducting studies of all sizes, including program evaluations, cohort studies, electronic linkage studies, and randomized clinical trials. As an investigator, she has been the PI or Co-Investigator of numerous grants, including a currently funded one on the association of uterine perforation and IUD expulsion with breastfeeding status at the time of IUD insertion and postpartum timing of IUD insertion. As a Biostatistician, she has contributed to numerous projects over the years and has provided Biostatistical consultations to countless investigators and KPNC clinician researchers. As Director of the DOR Biostatistical consulting Unit, she supervises a staff of 20 programmer analysts and support staff who provide biostatistical and programming support to over 250 KPNC clinician researchers on an annual basis. She has also served KPNC and DOR in many leadership roles.
