Presentation Details: In "Breaking Down Barriers to Implementing Yoga for Public Safety", Katie Carlson, the Public Information Officer for the Marion County Sheriff's Office and certified Yoga Instructor provides insight to some of the many barriers that prevent public safety personnel from beginning a yoga practice, and offers solutions to overcome those barriers. The presentation is concluded with a 12-minute Chair Yoga practice. The presentation is conducted through a shared screen presentation beginning with the benefits of implementing a yoga practice for public safety personnel, and focusing on the following areas of barriers to a yoga practice, and how to over them: 1.) The belief that public safety personnel must be flexible to begin a yoga practice. 2.) The belief that a yoga practice will be time consuming. 3.) The belief that beginning a yoga practice is expensive. 4.) The belief that yoga isn't for certain people, including gender, religion, and personal health. Carlson also provides helpful tips to implement a yoga practice into public safety agencies. The seated chair yoga practice will demonstrate the benefits of a yoga practice for stress relief.
