Presentation Details: The presentation will review the essential conceptual framework of Cultural Intelligence as Strategy for Managing Bias to increase motivation to reduce the impact of unconscious bias.
As Mahzarin Banaji (author of Blind Sports: Hidden Biases of Good People) said, "We would like to believe we are open-minded, fair and without bias, but research shows otherwise. This is an important, even if uncomfortable, realization for most of us." We all have biases, both explicit/conscious bias and implicit/unconscious bias. A key factor is that bias can be activated as part of your thoughts, but that does not mean it has to be applied in your behaviors in a biased manner.
Therefore, the presentation will review the following four cultural development factors: CQ Drive – your level of interest, persistence, and confidence during multicultural interactions. CQ Knowledge – your understanding of how cultures are similar and different. CQ Strategy – your awareness and ability to plan for multicultural interactions. CQ Action – Your ability to adapt when relating and working in multicultural contexts.
Cultural Intelligence helps employees, managers, and senior leaders to manage bias and leverage the power of diverse teams. Diversity is not enough, the cultural intelligence of the individuals on a diverse team determines whether the team's diversity promotes or deters innovation.
