Presentation Details: Twin pillars contribute to the success of any crisis support team. The team may be formed as CISM, Peer Support, Staff Support or other nomenclature but regardless of the terminology, the mission is typically the same: to provide psychological support to the population served. To function effectively, crisis support teams require a well-organized structure and leadership to thrive, driven by policies or operating procedures. The second pillar necessary for success is the ability of the team to follow best practices in providing services; to apply principles of quality assessment and improvement; to continually learn from their own practice; be informed by the work of others and by research in the area of crisis intervention. This presentation will explore factors that contribute to the success and health of the team and reflections on lessons learned since the inception of crisis support services.
