Presentation Details: The aim of this presentation would be to share the strategic planning and implementation of CISM support in response to a major disaster. Where NGO staff living in the disaster location were impacted by events and their organisation wanted to ensure best practice psychosocial support was provided in order to ensure their health and wellbeing.
Overview: In August 2020, SafeHaven supported an international NGO team based in Beirut, following an explosion. Each team member was impacted, and the local office severely damaged. The incident occurred at a time people had already been identified as struggling with stress due to the impact of COVID, an economic crisis and political unrest. The NGO was unsure of the psychological impact on individuals and we were tasked with evaluating and supporting those who wished to engage with support. Due to the travel restrictions, we mobilised remote support.
The presentation will show how the 5'T's are applied in a major incident response over 4 key stages of psychosocial crisis and disaster response, namely; strategic planning, support provision; ongoing review and adapting to circumstances, post-response review and follow up.
