University of Central Florida
Hello, my name is Isabel Silva, I am a current student at the University of Central Florida. I completed my AA at Valencia College in Orlando before transferring to UCF. Then, I was admitted to the Transfer-student Research and Integration Program (TRIP) at UCF where I was able to conduct research with Dr. Ken Teter. In his lab they study various bacterial toxins like cholera, typhoid, and cytolethal distending toxin. The research I conducted and will be presenting is about the bacterial toxin of Haemophilus ducreyi, we studied how the bacteria's toxin acts within the cell and what causes the toxin subunits to separate from each other. The final objective of understanding the toxin's mechanism of action is being able to develop treatments to prevent their infectivity.
