Landscapes architects should be leaders in reimagining roadside landscapes as beautiful, resilient, and active in the fight against climate change. There are an estimated 5 million acres of public land in the United States associated with the Highway system. This land is an underutilized asset. Designing these spaces not only for habitat restoration and pollinator habitat, but also for green energy production and transmission, biofuel production, green fiber production, etc. By doing this, we can turn these places into a catalyst for broader acceptance in society for the important work landscape architects do throughout our communities.
